Not to be Forgotten

As the devastation of the Corona Virus continues in our world, I am left to ponder the future of our Special Events Industry. This business has been a wonderful source of income and friendship over the past 30+ years for me personally for many of my associates here in Arizona and around the globe. While we have had our challenges over the years, we have, for the most part, experienced incredible growth personally, professionally, and financially.
Now, we are faced with the reality of no work, no revenue, and no social interaction. This Corona Virus has affected everyone in every corner of the world. Perhaps, when this world regains its bearings we will find that the Special Events Business will be the most directly impacted of all.
As the economy begins to slowly recover, we event professionals will likely be the last to see a return to business. Since most all of our events involve large numbers of attendees in  enclosed ballrooms, and social distancing, and limited exposure to large numbers of people are two of the most important defenses to this terrible virus, it makes sense that our opportunities for work will be very slow to return.
I have had the privilege of meeting and working with some of the most talented and creative people in the world. Just in our little corner of the world – Tucson – we have some amazing event specialists. Many of these folks are the proprietors of small businesses and have made a nice living creating memories for countless guests over the years.
And that is what concerns me the most. Will our memory makers soon become memories themselves? How many of these small businesses will be able to withstand this extended freeze of business? Many of my associates have families to support as well as overhead such as rent, insurance, license fees and more required to maintain a business.
Personally, I entered the Event Business age the age of 23 and by 25, I started my own concern. This was at a time when Tucson was just beginning to expand our Convention Industry with the opening of a number of fabulous resorts. Many of my friends got their start around the same time. I have friends in the event planning field, catering field, photographers, decorators, musicians, entertainers, and many more walks of life. We all “grew up” with the Special Events Industry. For the past 30+ years we have all contributed to making memories for countless clients. Whether it is the grateful bride or the dedicated conference planner, or the occasional movie producer or concert promoter, their appreciation and recognition is what feeds the spirit of those of us in the business.
The people that make up this wonderful industry are friends of mine and I know their tenacity and dedication. I hope that will be enough to see them through these incredibly difficult times and I hope I will reconnect with them in the not too distant future!
I miss them!

What in the World???!!!

June 10, 2020

Hello Friends!

Well, here we are in the middle of the year that wasn’t…2020.

OMG, can you believe what we have been through to this point and what the future looks like moving forward?

The year started off in a nice normal fashion with all of the hopes and expectations we all feel in the dawn of a new year and new decade! People were celebrating with lots of great Roaring 20′s themed events and the economy was humming along.

Then came the Corona Virus or Covid-19! Ugh, it has hit the world with a thump and millions around the world have been effected with over 100,000 lives lost in the past 4 months just in America alone. Very sad times indeed. And there is so much uncertainty moving forward. This is a very contagious and dangerous virus and while many have sheltered in place and exercised social distancing as experts in the medical field have advised, we are still facing increasing spread in many parts of the country and world. Of course, our precautions have thrown our economy and employment into an unprecedented tailspin which could take years to recover from.

Then to add to our stressful times, we witnessed the senseless death of George Floyd at the hands of 4 police officers on the streets of Minneapolis. George’s death has led to continued protests for equal rights and fair treatment of blacks and other minorities. For the most part, the protests have been peaceful, but some have lead to arrests, injury and additional deaths. Violence and looting in the streets of major US cities have just added to the sadness that surround us in these difficult times. Hopefully, long overdue change will come and the violence will subside.

Now we are entering the hurricane season and the US has already experienced 3 major storms resulting in massive flooding and personal loss. Locally, here in Arizona we have the start of the fire season. In two of our local mountain ranges, firefighters are battling blazes caused by lighting.

All of this devastation is really sounding like the end of the world is just around the corner! I really hope our world survives this craziness.

Until we meet again, please take care of each other and be safe!

Entry 4

Well, it has been some time since my last entry!

I really should be better at this kind of thing. Sometimes life takes priority and things like Blogs become much less important.

That has been the case for me.

My business has flourished over the past couple years and I have really enjoyed my newest entity, Twilight Productions. Between ACE, Suite Games of Arizona, and Twilight, I have kept myself quite occupied. The downside to this is that I sacrifice personal time and miss out on special events and opportunities along the way. And talk about time flying! Days, weeks and months just whiz by me!

I wish I had some valuable content to share after all this time away from the Blog, but I don’t have any useful tips or well kept secrets to share.

Without turning this into a personal diary or soapbox, I will say that I have had some wonderful opportunities come my way over the past 3 years. I have met and worked with some fun, fascinating people and had expanded my talents to include some professional auctioneering. I do these auctions to support some of our local charities in the community. It is gratifying when my rambling can bring in much needed revenue for these worthy causes.

I have also had the good fortune to emcee a few of our communities galas over the past couple years. This has been a lot of fun!

On a world events level, we are still dealing with terrorists and hatred. Some things just don’t change. I try not to dwell on it as the negative seems to perpetuate much faster than the positive. And there is plenty of positive in the world – just got to look harder to find it.

We at ACE are working with one of those “positives” this weekend!

We are involved in the 2nd annual Lizzie Bell Fundraiser. Lizzie is a remarkable young lady with a rare blood disease. She has undergone multiple surgeries and procedures throughout her life and through it all she maintains an amazing positive attitude. She uses her experience and publicity to raise funds for programs to aid other children in her situation.

We hope to raise lots of cash in this weekend’s event.

Until next time, I hope you have a wonderful summer and I’ll catch you later!

Time for a mid-year evaluation!

Well, here we are, nearing the midpoint of 2013. It seems to me like we just welcomed in a brand new year and now it is nearly half over.

Are you satisfied with how the first half of this year has evolved? Professionally, are you where you want to be or where you hoped to be? Personally, is your life in balance? Do you consider yourself content? Do you have a plan for the remainder of the year? Have you set attainable goals for yourself or your business?

I ask these questions because I am asking myself these same questions as I write this installment of Ace Speaks. We have all heard it said that it is a good idea to evaluate your life from time to time. I think it is good practice to take a breath occasionally, and do a personal inventory of your life. Sometimes life is humming along and nothing needs to change. Other times, you have to take the reins and guide your life so it doesn’t guide you.

Professionally, my life has changed since the start of the year. As of January 5, 2013 I have taken on another business to add to my holdings.

I am now the owner of Twilight Productions, an entertainment services company based inTucson. I have known Twilight and its various owners over the past 25 plus years and I have always admired the way they conducted business over that time.

Twilight Productions provides a wide variety of entertainment for corporate events and resorts. Until I became more involved with the business, I had no idea how many talented musicians reside inTucson. It has been a lot of fun learning the entertainment business and meeting all of our wonderful performers and I look forward to the continued rebound in our convention industry.

To learn more about Twilight Productions, please visit our website at: www.twilightproductionsaz.com or call us at (520) 760-3000.

While I settle into my new venture, I will continue to manage my other enterprises – Ace Casino Equipment and Suite Games of Arizona. I am very pleased with the progress these two little endeavors have shown over the past couple years. I will continue to improve our services and products to stay on top of our game!

I hope when you take a minute to evaluate your situation, you will smile and take satisfaction in where you are in your life. I know I do!

It’s a New Year! Feeling Lucky??

Well, here we are, firmly settled into another new year!

2013…what do you have in store for us? Is ’13 going to be a “bad luck” year?

To answer this and other questions I had, I did what any red blooded American guy would do. I consulted a numerologist…

I am born on the 13th day of the month, so I am not superstitious and my Personal Number is 6.

Take a look at what Esther 250 says about the coming year and your own personal number…enjoy!

 By Esther 250

UNIVERSAL NUMBER 6

First and foremost – how do we know which Universal Year we are experiencing?

By a simple Math Calculation that you can use each year:

2013: 2 + 1 + 3 = 6.

The last time we experienced a Universal Number Six year was back in 1995.

KEYWORDS: Beauty, love and service.
SYMBOL: Six-Pointed Star.
ANIMIAL: Dove.
PLANET: Venus, the Planet of Love.

Number Six personifies the idea “love others just as much as yourself.” It felt the more people do for others, the more love it would be demonstrating the idea of love.

So as a Universal Year, there will be more focus on those less fortune than ourselves and most likely Mother Nature is likely to put us all to the test. To see if our hearts can say – Do I really have to have that? Can I afford to perhaps give some more charity to those that maybe in immediate need? This year worldwide, we can choose to have the satisfaction in life which comes from service to others. Number Six does not concern itself with how it looks to others, nor have much charge on doing things “right”, for it will know that the free expression of a loving heart is always perfect.

World Lessons in Life are:

Value all people including yourself.

Learn about all relationships and the true meaning of responsibility.

Erase all the “shoulds” out of your vocabulary. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion if even you happen not to agree with it.

Learn how to allow others to assist you, and realize their assistance is coming from love.

Receiving love and saying “thank you” are a fine art, practice it.

How to Calculate Your Own Personal Year

Add the day and month you were born plus the current Universal Year of 6.

This number exposes influences and outcomes that you are under in the present year, helping you to where to concentrate efforts for your Personal year. Special Note: In numerology, 10 converts back down to 1. The exceptions are what is referred to as Master Numbers 11 and 22.

Example: For all of those born on 15th of October, regardless of where in the world.

1 + 5 + 1 + 6 = 7 + 6 now becomes 13 which converts back down to a Personal Number Four Year.

PERSONAL YEAR 1

A personal number One year has an underlying theme of “New Beginnings”, therefore your resolution for this year needs to be “I am willing to change”, even if by nature change is not your middle name. This is your year to put fear aside and look at your life and what works for you and what has been holding you back in the past. It is now time for you to be singing for yourself “What About Me and my needs”.

It is also a good year to make a career change if you have been unhappy or start a new course of study. Look for those new opportunities and consider your possibilities and pursue something totally new which will bear fruit over the next few years. Don’t let anyone talk you out of your plans. Keep pushing ahead and do what you intuition tells you is right.

PERSONAL YEAR 2

A personal number Two year has an underlying theme of “A spiritual growth of sharing and co-operation with others”.

This year carries the theme of “partnership”, but you will have to strive to maintain emotional balance and be willing to give and take. Please note this theme can also extend to both working and business partnerships and not necessarily just those of the emotional variety. Many people find that their personal relationship are tested or challenged during a No. Two year. If you attempt to force things in any relationships or working life, you are likely to become confused and this in turn will cause trouble. Work with time, love and patience and keep things to yourself.

PERSONAL YEAR 3

A personal number Three year has an underlying theme of “giving” and one must be careful not giving out to the point of exhaustion during such a year. You are also likely to notice that you will be attending a lot of family type functions such as Coming of Age, Confirmations, Engagements or Weddings.

The outcome of this year is very much in your hands. On a deep level, it is your attitudes that will be most important. If you are determined to have a bit of fun and enjoy good company, you surely will and the year will turn out to be one full of fond memories. Also, consider a change of personal style, such as a new wardrobe, hairstyle, etc.

PERSONAL YEAR 4

A Four year has an underlying theme “work and more work”. You have find yourself with so much to do and it is far better to just get on with it in a systematic way rather than chop and change, or allow yourself to become “frozen” with panic.

This is an excellent year to make plans for the future – making decisions using the blending of head (analysis) and the heart (intuition) and learning to trust the process of your life and cut out what is unnecessary in your life. Usually this year tends to be financially stable but maybe boring on the romantic front.

PERSONAL YEAR 5

A Personal Number Five year has an underlying theme of “freedom” and is likely to be fast and furious following after a year of stability and boredom. This is the year of travel, exploring new ideas and meeting many different types of people.

If you develop some creative ideas this year, make them happen, especially if they are to do with business/sales promotion. Don’t expect anything serious to develop on the romantic front, but you are likely to attract the sort of people whom you won’t forget in a hurry.

PERSONAL YEAR 6

A personal number Six year has an underlying theme of “home and family” and you may find yourself placing a lot of emphasis on home, responsibility, “duty”, loved ones, relationships and friends. This is also the year that a lot single people tend to get married.

You may be required to make major decision this year in connection with your stability and future – your foundations for the future. Think with your head more than your heart and you will make the right choice. Decisions to do with real estate are likely to be made this year and this regard, think carefully about where you will be really be happy in the long term instead of just considering things from an impulsive or emotional point of view.

PERSONAL YEAR 7

A personal number Seven year has an underlying theme of “reflection” and in many ways it is a difficult sort of year to define.

This is a good year for retreat, learning and inner change rather than a year of major happening. From a love and romantic point of view, there is likely to be inner turmoil created by broken relationships. The reason for this is that you now want relationships that fulfill your spiritual as well as your emotional needs.

PERSONAL YEAR 8

A personal number Eight year has an underlying theme of “independence and wisdom”. It is also likely to be a prosperous one.

Things won’t just come to you – you have to earn them or be working hard for what you want. This is generally a year of material gain – reward for past efforts, but is also a time to break free of the past and get on with your life.

PERSONAL YEAR 9

A personal number Nine year has an underlying theme of “Endings” and it is a case of coming ready or not. Many changes are set in motion during this year; however, many aspects of those changes will not always be evident until later the following year.

Now is the time to have a spring clean of your life and clear out all the things (and people) that are no longer serving your highest good in life. This is a year of reviewing as well as letting go. Endings in life should be viewed optimistically, because they always preceded new beginnings.

Wow, who knew there could be so much in numbers, and this just scratches the surface!

Just remember what we say in the casino…it is bad luck to be superstitious!

Holiday Thoughts

Hello Friends!

As the holiday’s rapidly approach, I will take this space and time to reflect on some of the good, the bad, and the ugly in the past year.

To begin, I wish that you and your loved ones celebrate in peace and harmony this holiday season. Times like Hanukah, Christmas and New Year’s Eve and Day can be so much fun when loved ones come together to reminisce and play together.

Let’s begin with the good… well; the world did not end on12/21/12! And that is a good thing, because there is so much more to be done with our time on this earth.

The economy continues to slowly recover as unemployment shrinks and housing prices begin to bounce back. Although, I am sure there are plenty of people that would disagree with the experts on that topic.

We are getting closer to ending wars and removing US troops from around the world. Unfortunately, more will likely perish in the pursuit of these ends.

We have made it through another political election year and have chosen our leader for another 4 years. Some see this as good news, while others take the opposite view. At least it is settled and America can try to move forward.

And each of us has something good that has happened to them personally over the past year. Sometimes you just have to think about it for awhile, but it is there.

Now for the bad…

Well, friends and colleagues continue to pass on with the cycle of life. While other friends and colleagues just move on through job transfers, divorce, or restlessness. In any case, that is usually viewed as bad news to those left behind.

On another bad note, there is still way too much violence in the world with so much hatred being thrown about. Prejudice and ignorance makes for such ill will between mankind.

And finally for the ugly…

My heartfelt condolences go out the communities ofPortland,OregonandNewtown,Connecticutthis holiday season.

Once again, senseless violence has pervaded our hometowns. How can anyone come to terms with the kind of heartache caused by these hateful individuals? Yeah, I know…mental illness and weapons make for a bad combination, but it seems to me that both have been around for centuries. So, how did it get out of hand and how does it continue to happen?

I wish I had the answers, but I don’t. All I know is  those mall shoppers in Portland and those little school kids and faculty at Sandy Hook Elementary School did not deserve to have their lives snatched away from them by a deranged gunman.

I wish peace to the surviving friends and families of all victims of senseless violence. I know it can’t be a very happy holiday for them. But I hope they know they are cared about and prayers from around the world are sent their way.

May the peace and joy of the holiday season be with you and may the hope of a New Year make you smile!

Welcome to Ace Speaks!

Welcome to my blog!

I will use this time and space to share my stories and knowledge on the Gaming and Special Event industry!

I will try to make my entries interesting, fun, and informative. It is my goal that you will read my comments and share your thoughts and suggestions to make it a blog that people will want to return to time and again!

So enjoy…

I am the founder and owner of Ace Casino Equipment. ACE is a Casino Theme Company based in sunny Tucson, Arizona. We are celebrating our 25th year in business this year. Over the years we have evolved to include entertainment and décor options for our clients. I am proud of what has been accomplished over the past quarter century and look forward to what lies ahead.

People often ask me what made me get into this business of Special Events and Theme Parties. So, to save you the trouble of asking…

I grew up with games of chance and gambling is in my blood.

I was 6 years old the first time my mom took me to the race track to see the horse races. I remember playing penny ante poker with my family when I could barely reach the kitchen table.

As soon as I turned 21, I made my way to Las Vegas to see the bright lights and treasures to be won.

When I started working I was given the opportunity to work in the tourism industry in Tucson. I was fortunate to get in at the beginning of a booming industry. Tourism was just taking off and building was underway to make Tucson a tourist and convention destination. As visitors flocked to Tucson, there became a need for dependable, knowledgeable suppliers and I fancied myself as one of those suppliers. I married my love for gambling and my love for tourism and found a business was to be born!

With little more than a credit card, blind ambition, and a desire to make a better life for myself, I commenced to building my business. I am a firm believer in being in the right place at the right time and “Lady Luck” was smiling on me in the early stages.

Now, here we are, 25 years later and we are going strong! Don’t get me wrong. There have been some ups and downs along the way. But I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. I love what I do for a living and that is half the battle, I believe. Find something you really like and if you are good at it, you will succeed!

Thanks for dropping by! Join me next time when I talk about…
